Caution: Radioactive Pinhole
Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007So, I got my radioactive iodine, got some rest, and celebrated by making a camera. Actually I made the camera before I went into the hospital, but now it is actually radioactive (since I touched it).
The hospital trip and treatment was definitely interesting. The radioactive iodine arrived in a lead canister. Josh, the nuclear medicine technican who has been involved with with almost all of my testing and data collection, prepared the iodine. I drank it down and was surprised at what a neutral taste it had. It tasted a bit like burnt ozone (how would I know that?), but not that unpleasant. That was it. Josh left and I waited to throw up. That was the biggest concern everyone expressed - that I would throw up and it would have all been for nothing. And this stuff is expensive. But, I didn’t throw up. I didn’t even feel queezy. (more…)
A Dry Summer
Sunday, October 8th, 2006This past summer, I worked as hard on my art efforts as I ever have. I was making pinhole photos almost daily. And when you work full time in your day job, it takes some energy to put in those extra hours each day or at least each week. Summer Pinholing
Friday, August 18th, 2006Yeah, its been really hot this summer. Everywhere.
I’ve been taking a lot of pinhole photos the last couple of months, but haven’t posted any on this site. None of these has been quite what I was after. But I keep working on new images, repeating things, trying to figure out and perfect what I’m after. It keeps me going, seeing progress. But, it also gets me down at times, not quite getting there.
So, with all the heat, Carmela and I finally dragged out the kayak again last weekend and drove it down to Oregon Inlet. We wove in and out of the marshes under the Bonner Bridge. Its always nice in the water. Even with the sun bearing down on us, just seeing the water all around cools me off.
I took along a round tube camera that holds 8×10 negatives and made this exposure while we were out.
